What a relief! With all the crappy stuff that our children are exposed to, we were surprised to read this article and to review this chart on the results of a kindergarten career day survey at a school. You know that day when students announce what they want to be when they grow up? (FYI, we’re still waiting to grow up.) As you’ll see from the link below (click on the pie chart), the career choices really haven’t changed much since we were kids — teacher, firefighter, policeman, etc. This is quite remarkable considering the professions our children are exposed to on television. Below is how we imagined the list.
- OctoMom
- Real Housewife
- Girl Next Door
- Professional Letter Turner
- Terrorist
- Hoarder
- The Bachelor
- Papparazzi

My kids want to be an entomologist, a kindergarten teacher, a train engineer and a daddy. Yep. That’s my six year old. He asked me if he could marry more than one wife. (I told him no!) He said he wanted 100 kids. I asked him where they will all sleep. He looked at me with that duh look. “In a hundred beds.”
My son wants to be an Italian plumber thanks to his Mario obsession or an assassin thanks to his Ninjago obsession. He also told me once that he would be a pilot and fly me around the world first class…..either that or put me in an old people’s home…..one where I would get a bath at least once a month!
LOL
You forgot cake decorator and dress fitter.
Love and laughter,
Lily
My Boy 12 (aspie, ADHD) when he was 3 he wanted to be a cartographer…yeah I had to look up what cartographer meant LOL and he stuck with that until he hit middle school science and decided he wants to be a scientist.
The girl 8 (autism, DD, epilepsy) says when she is grown like a woman, she wants to go to meetings
and Moo 5 NT says she wants to be a tv show maker….of course she is watching a tv show right now so, well there ya go!
